THE NEURODIVERSE LOVE DOCUMENTARY

Understanding the strengths, differences & challenges of mixed-neurotype relationships—on screen!

Explore With Us

Numerous couples navigate the messy world of love, where neurodivergence creates unique challenges.

It's a constant negotiation, struggling to understand a different language, a differently wired brain. We delve into their journeys, exploring love's ability to translate even the most complex emotions.

Is love enough to overcome the differences these couples don't understand?

The Story

Autism is a neurological difference that exists on a spectrum.  Many adults may struggle throughout their lives with communication differences, sensory sensitivities, processing challenges, different emotional needs, and not understand they are neurodivergent.  These adults are part of what is called "The Lost Generation", as they never knew why they may have felt different then their peers, and they never received the support and accomodations they may have needed at school, work, in their family or romantic relationships.

Neurodiverse Love is primarily a series of interviews led by the offscreen presence of Mona Kay, MSW. Ph.D. (Host of the Neurodiverse Love Podcast).  The mixed-neurotype couples are the focal point and will be interviewed on-line or in their own home/spaces.  We will also revisit their past through archival footage and photos.  With this approach we hope to garner the most natural responses and to gain as much insight into their lives as possible.

In addition, we will also interview therapists and coaches who work withi neurodiverse couples and they will shed light on the neurological underpinnings of the challenges these couples may be experiencing.  They will also offer strategies for navigating differences and challenges, and provide insights into building stronger, more supportive partnerships within the context of neurodivergence.

Mission Statement

To increase understanding & acceptance of the strengths, differences & challenges in mixed-neurotype relationships, where at least one partner is Autistic.

Unidentified neurodivergence can contribute to "unintentional" hurt and pain.

This film will help open the door to increased compassion and hope for neurodiverse couples.
